Welcome to the Consular section at the Embassy of South Africa in Tunis. In this part of the website, we mainly provide information on visas, which we consider would be useful to non South African citizens intending to travel to the country.
South Africans who are interested in civil matters (registration of birth, identity documents, driving licence, renewal of passports etc) are invited to contact the Consular Section directly, telephonically "71 800 311".

GENERAL INFORMATION

Consular hours are from 8:30 to 12:00 from Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.
 Processing time for visa applications is 10 working days,
Upon applying for a visa/permit, a non-refundable processing fee of TD 70 is payable,,
Passports must have two blank pages for the visa/permit,
Passports must be valid for at least 30 days after the return date from South Africa,
The Consular section might request repatriation deposits and any other documentation deemed necessary to finalize the application in addition to the documents mentioned below:

TOURIST VISITS

a duly completed Visa and Transit Visa Form (download) or available at the Embassy,
a valid passport,
two recent photos,
a work certificate (for self-employed persons, a proof of the registration of the company is also requested),
a leave certificate,
a confirmed hotel booking (hotel guides are available at the Embassy),
Proof of residence in South Africa of inviting party (valid lease contract, utility bill).

a telex reflecting bookings made for a confirmed return ticket,
3 months bank statements certified by the bank,
1 salary sheet,

REFUND OF REPATRIATION DEPOSIT

Visitors who paid a repatriation deposit should apply for a refund of his or her deposit at the Mission. The due date for refund of the repatriation deposit is 28 February 2015. After this date anyone who has note applied for his or her deposit will forfeit it.

BUSINESS VISITS

a duly completed Visa and Transit Visa Form,
a valid passport,
two recent photos,
stamped letter of invitation from the inviting company in South Africa,
a confirmed hotel booking,
Letter of assumption of costs (prise en charge) by the sending or inviting company or 3 months bank statements certified by the bank ,
a telex reflecting bookings made for a confirmed return ticket,
processing fees : TD 70 (non-refundable).

Visitors who paid a repatriation deposit should apply for a refund of his or her deposit at the Mission. The due date for refund of the repatriation deposit is 28 February 2015. After this date anyone who has note applied for his or her deposit will forfeit it.


IMPORTANT NOTICE :


1.All documents MUST be originals with English translation
2.Full unabridged birth certificate for MINORS when travelling with parents. If only travelling with one parent, a letter of consent in the form of an affidavit from the other parent is also required. (link to list of requirements)
3.Letter of consent from both parents when MINOR is travelling unaccompanied.
4.ALL VISA APPLICATIONS MUST BE DONE IN PERSON – NO AGENTS OR REPRESENTATIVES WILL BE ALLOWED

STUDY VISA

Requirements

(a) A duly completed application form signed by the applicant.
(b) Passport valid for no less than 30 days after the expiry of intended visit.
(c) Payment of the prescribed fee.
(d) A vaccination certificate, if required by the Act.
(e) Proof of financial means in the form of-
  • bank statements;
  • bursaries;
  • cash available or travellers' cheques

to cover envisaged living expenses during the sojourn in the Republic and to pay tuition fees.
f) Medical cover registered in terms of South African medical scheme or any medical cover recognised by the Medical Schemes Council.
g) Medical and radiological report.
h) In the case of a minor, an unabridged birth certificate, in addition to the particulars of the person in the Republic who will act as the learner's guardian and confirmatory letter from such person.
i) Proof of consent for the intended stay from both parents, or from the sole custody parent along with proof of sole custody.
j) An official letter from the institution confirming provisional acceptance and duration of the course.
k) Certificate of Accreditation from the learning institution in the Republic.
l) Proof of accommodation for the duration of study (university letter / lease contract).
m) A police clearance certificate if required in respect of all applicants of 18 years of age or older, in respect of all previous countries of residence for periods exceeding one year, to be submitted within three months of the application if not immediately available.
n) A return air ticket (valid for one year).

Kindly note that processing time for a Study Visa is 8 weeks.
